As G. I. Gurdjieff said, Knowledge not equals Understanding

“This is the single best, simplest and most striking demonstration I’ve yet seen of how neural pathways, once laid down, create mental and motor expectations which are extremely resistant to revision and how merely willing oneself to view, think, act, or expect differently from what we’ve become exposed or accustomed to is nowhere near as easy or effective as one is inclined to think. Some things, once learned, and well-entrenched in one’s neural pathways, especially where automatic, non-conscious body responses are concerned, can be almost impossible to revise or extricate.
An important take-home lesson from this is that one should be mindful of what behavioral habits, habits of mind, and expectations one is cultivating in one’s life without even realizing it.”
